On this day, Nov. 17, in 1950, Ernest Ingenito shot nine people, killing five family members in Franklin Township, N.J.Ingenito had a raging temper and had been dishonorably discharged from the Army for a fight nine years earlier at Fort Belvoir.
When the family discovered that he was cheating on his wife, she filed for a divorce.

Ingenito, 26, demanded to see his children, then started shooting her family. He was convicted for the killings, but avoided a death sentence.
He was released on parole in 1978. He was arrested again in 1994, this time for sexual assault of 8-year-old girl.
He died in custody in 1995 at age 71.
