While campaigning in San Bernardino, Calif., on Friday night Hillary Clinton compared Donald Trump to a tyrant, saying, “We are trying to elect a president, not a dictator.”
Clinton’s event in San Bernardino concluded her fifth straight day of campaigning in the Golden State. While in California, the former secretary of state has taken great pains to contrast her policies against Trump’s. On Thursday, she gave a speech aggressively taking down Trump’s national security proposals.
On the campaign trail, Clinton often claims that Trump’s policies don’t have substance, and on Friday night she further that by claiming, “It’s all about him seeing his name in the newspaper. … That is not a good enough reason to be president.”
She added, “I don’t understand Donald Trump running a whole campaign based on nothing but denigrating immigrants … at some point you have to ask yourself, is this just nothing but a political stunt?”
Clinton is expected to secure the Democratic nomination before polls close in California on Tuesday night, as New Jersey voting ends three hours prior. In a general election matchup, Clinton has the edge over Trump by a small margin, with the latest polls showing her beating him 43.8-42.3, according to RealClearPolitics averages.
