Poll: Trump, Carson, Cruz winners

The latest Fox News poll shows that those viewed as outsiders have vaulted ahead in the Republican presidential race.

Real estate tycoon Donald Trump is leading the poll with 25 percent of the Republican primary voters favoring his candidacy, followed by pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson with 12 percent, and Tea Party favorite Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, garnering 10 percent.

Of the top three, Cruz is the only one who has been elected to a public office. In a move which likely increased his status as an outsider and conservative firebrand, Cruz recently called Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., a liar on the Senate floor.

Carly Fiorina’s strong performance in the undercard debate earned her an extra three percent in the poll, vaulting her to five percent overall. Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett Packard, has also never held elected office.

Former Florida governor Jeb Bush’s support dropped six percentage points to 9 percent. His debate performance “was judged subpar by those who watched,” the poll found.
