Nor does it have to impact their draft standing. “I don’t think marijuana usage is as big a deal as it was 10 years ago in the eyes of most teams,” NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock said.

But there is a catch: Teams don’t want players who are habitual users. Why? Because as the Redskins have found with tight end Fred Davis and tackle Trent Williams, they could miss games — and in some cases a season.
“The habitual usage of any narcotic, including alcohol, is a concern,” Mayock said. “If it’s habitual and the guy gets suspended, it will impact your evaluation of him. If it’s a one-time thing — and it’s not like you’re beating women or a convicted felon … it’s not an issue.”
