A “Let’s go Brandon” chant broke out among supporters of Glenn Youngkin at his campaign headquarters Tuesday night.
Energy was high in the room in Chantilly as the results in the Virginia governor’s race showed the Republican with a slim lead over Democratic rival Terry McAuliffe four hours after the polls closed.
McAuliffe, who is seeking a second nonconsecutive term, has so far refused to concede, but the crowd at his headquarters has been thinning out.
“Folks, not everything is counted and we’re still waiting for a lot of votes to come in. And we want to ensure every Virginians’ voice is heard,” he tweeted at 10:36 p.m.

Youngkin is expected to speak to his supporters at some point in the evening, and Republicans have already begun to congratulate him for a victory.
The “Let’s go Brandon” phrase originated Oct. 2 from an interview between an NBC News sports reporter and Brandon Brown, a NASCAR driver. NASCAR fans behind the reporter chanted, “F*** Joe Biden,” but she said they were saying, “Let’s go Brandon.”
