Politically correct un-fun events planned for election night

On Tuesday night, two political parties will gather for separate non-parties at two area hotels. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee will host an event for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and DCCC Chairman Chris Van Hollen at the Liaison Capitol Hill Hotel. The viewing venue had originally been closed to the media until late Monday afternoon, when the DCCC issued a release stating that “due to the high demand for coverage, the DCCC is opening to press the speaking program at the Election Watch Reception on Tuesday evening.”

On the other side of the aisle — and of town — the National Republican Congressional Committee is gathering its masses for an event at the Grand Hyatt with special guests Minority Leader John Boehner and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour. The Republicans have been careful not to call their shindig a party, instead saying it’s an “Election Night Results Watch,” and they are going out of their way to make it seem like it’s not going to be fun. “Even if the election goes well, it won’t be a time to celebrate,” one Republican source said. “Not when unemployment is still near 10 percent.”

Sure, but how do we know they’re serious about this un-fun thing? While food will be served, it’s a cash bar.
