After touting poll, Trump says polls ‘don’t matter’

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Donald Trump loves to talk about polls, especially when they show him leading.

But on Saturday the GOP front-runner sang a different tune, telling a packed crowd that polls “don’t matter.” Trump said instead that Monday’s final caucus returns are the only poll that counts.

“We are having so much overflow where Democrats coming [are] voting for us because they want to see intelligence, and common sense, and good things happen,” Trump said. “The only thing I can say is it all doesn’t matter if you don’t caucus on Monday.”

“The polls don’t matter. Nothing matters,” Trump added. “The only thing that matters is the poll that’s going to be taken on Monday.”

Trump made the remarks an event held with Liberty University President Jerry Falwell, who made his endorsement of Trump official earlier this week.

The remarks came after Trump touted the newly-released Des Moines Register/Bloomberg poll showing him topping Sen. Ted Cruz, 28-23 percent, in their last poll before Monday’s caucuses.

Overall, the real estate mogul leads Cruz in the most recent RealClearPolitics average, 30.8-24.5, with Sen. Marco Rubio sitting at 14.5 percent after a few polls showing him getting a bump in the Hawkeye State.
