Protesters rename street in front of Russian Embassy ‘President Zelensky Way’

In protest, demonstrators unofficially renamed the street where the Russian Embassy is located in Washington, D.C., “President Zelensky Way” to show their displeasure with the invasion of Ukraine.

“At Russian Embassy in DC … now located on President Zelensky Way,” activist Claude Taylor wrote on Twitter.

“We wanted to make a small, symbolic statement in support of Ukraine,” he told Fox 5.

In 2018, Taylor was also a part of renaming the street where the Saudi Embassy is located “Khashoggi Way.” The D.C. Council officially named the street “Jamal Khashoggi Way” in 2021.

“The President Zelensky Way street sign is just our way of peacefully protesting Putin’s atrocities and honoring Ukraine,” he told the Hill.

The D.C. Council named the street “Boris Nemtsov Place” in 2018 in remembrance of the outspoken critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin — whose killing the Kremlin denies any part in.

Protesters have continuously gathered in the U.S. capital, braving cold and wet weather, since the invasion began in February.

“Stand with Ukraine,” they chanted at one demonstration.
