Huckabee co-author reportedly accused of child molestation

Weeks after Mike Huckabee involved himself himself in the Duggars controversy came reports of child molestation against an author who co-wrote two books with the presidential candidate.

John Perry has been accused of child molestation in two separate lawsuits, Buzzfeed first reported.

According to a 2012 police investigation, “the allegations of sexual battery were sustained,” but no further details of the assaults were given.

Perry and Huckabee co-authored Do the Right Thing: Inside the Movement That’s Bringing Common Sense Back to America about Huckabee’s 2008 presidential campaign, and worked together on Character is the Issue, Huckabee’s 1997 memoir.

According to reports, the victim was between the ages of 11 and 14 when the assault occurred, but 18 when she first disclosed the allegations. Following the allegations, Perry’s wife left him citing “inappropriate marital conduct.”

Perry also wrote for Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore, Southern Evangelical Seminary President Richard Land, Southern Baptist Convention President James T. Draper and Frank Page of the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee. The prolific author even co-authored The Vow, a popular book that later became a feature film starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum.

Huckabee has been a public defender of the family in TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting” after child molestation allegations against Josh Duggar were first reported.

The Huckabee campaign did not respond to requests for comments.
