Rand Paul launches first attack ad on Hillary Clinton

Sen. Rand Paul launched an attack ad on Hillary Clinton Sunday through a website, LibertyNotHillary.com, that solicits signatures for a petition against the former secretary of state’s candidacy for president.

“Hillary Clinton represents the worst of the Washington machine,” the video says.

The ad, titled “Defeat the Washington Machine,” decries “the arrogance of power, corruption and coverup, conflicts of interest and failed leadership with tragic consequences” that, according to the video, have followed Clinton throughout her time in government.

A freshly-minted GOP candidate for president, Paul touted his plans to fight corruption in Washington, which includes a balanced budget requirement, a provision forcing lawmakers to read bills before they cast votes on them and an plan to impose term limits in Congress.

Paul announced the Liberty Not Hillary campaign via Twitter Sunday shortly after appearing on a number of Sunday shows to criticize the Democratic candidate on the Clinton Foundation’s acceptance of foreign donations while was secretary of state, among other things.

His attack website features a hashtag, #LibertyNotHillary, and a collection of Facebook and Twitter photos evidently intended to spawn a social media campaign against Clinton.

The Kentucky Republican has put a great deal of effort into his social media presence in the early days of his campaign, even allowing his website to accept donations in Bitcoin, a digital currency, in a first for a presidential candidate.
