Specter still trashing Sestak over removal from Naval command

If last night’s Democratic debate was any indication, Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Pa., plans to win by casting doubt upon his opponent’s military career. Specter and Rep. Joe Sestak, D-Pa., met in their only official debate before the May 18 primary election:

How Sestak’s 31-year Navy career ended has been the central focus of Specter’s attack strategy of late, and Specter refused to let it go when the two met face-to-face.

At the onset of the debate, Specter demanded an apology from Sestak for a television commercial that accuses Specter of lying about Sestak’s Navy record.

”There is one item that needs to be cleared up. I want an apology from Congressman Sestak,” Specter said. ‘I’ve been in public service for 43 years…and nobody has ever called me a liar. When he calls me a liar, that’s out of bounds.”

Sestak did not respond.

Specter repeatedly throughout the debate asked Sestak to release his military records to clear up the charge that Sestak had created a ”poor command climate” and was relieved from duty.
