Wone investigators assert privilege to avoid talking

D.C. police officers who investigated the 2006 slaying of Robert Wone say law enforcement privilege prevents them from answering deposition questions in a civil suit over Wone’s death.

Wone was found stabbed to death in the town house of Joseph Price, Dylan Ward and Victor Zaborsky and his widow has filed a $20-million wrongful-death suit against the three.

They were acquitted of covering up the killing in a criminal trial. Patricia Donkor, an attorney for the District, said the officers were asserting their law enforcement privilege over aspects of the case that have “not been divulged” in previous proceedings.

D.C. man gets 12 years for southeast stabbing

A District man was sentenced to 12 years behind bars for a 2009 stabbing death in Southeast. Bernard Gayles, 40, pleaded guilty in February to voluntary manslaughter in the death of 54-year-old Nathaniel Hall.

Prosecutors said Hall had been living with a woman in an apartment in the 800 block of Barnaby Street SE, and was told to leave because of his criminal past. Gayles angrily knocked on the apartment door, and stabbed Hall multiple times before leaving. – Scott McCabe and Emily Babay
