A new poll revealed that a large contingent of folks would support comedian Ellen DeGeneres running for president.
DeGeneres topped the website Ranker’s “Celebrities Who Should Run for President” poll, beating out 59 other stars, including Beyonce, Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Taylor Swift and Nicolas Cage.
Donald Trump, the front-runner for the GOP presidential nomination, came in at 50th on the poll, with 36 positive votes and 123 negative ones. In contrast, DeGeneres received 642 positive votes and 549 negative ones.
She addressed the Ranker poll during her opening monologue on Wednesday’s edition of “Ellen.”
“I’m honored that people think I should be running for president,” DeGeneres said. “Portia [de Rossi, her wife] would make a beautiful first lady. And I love private planes, so that’s appealing to me. But I have no political ambitions whatsoever.”
According to DeGeneres, being president “sounds like the worst job in the world.”
She did, however, take some time to gloat over the stars she beat on the Ranker poll, including the four who rounded out the top five: Samuel L. Jackson, Bill Murray, Will Smith and Stephen Colbert.
“I don’t know who’s voting. I assume it’s people who like to dance, but don’t like snakes on their mother-bleeping planes,” DeGeneres quipped.
DeGeneres also laid out a few policy ideas in case she ever did decide to run for the White House, including dissolving both major political parties in favor of something more festive.
“If I were president, I would close the gender pay gap,” she said. “I would also have every gas tank on the same side of every car. And I’d get rid of the Republican and Democratic Party. I would just have a giant pizza party.”
