Workers at Northwest apartment building hospitalized

Two men were found unconscious in the parking garage of a Northwest D.C. apartment complex, causing emergency technicians to go door-to-door checking for more victims of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The men, who have not been identified, were using pressure washers in an unvented area of the three-story underground parking garage at 150 V Street Northwest, a four-story apartment complex.

High levels of carbon monoxide were detected in other parts of the building in the Bloomingdale neighborhood. Officials with the D.C. Department of Fire & Emergency Medical Services knocked on doors looking for others affected.

The two workers were sent to George Washington University’s hospital in Priority 1 condition, described as “serious” and “life-threatening” by Fire & EMS spokesman Pete Piringer.
