‘Denied work’: Colin Kaepernick posts video showing the NFL he’s ready to play

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick posted a video to his Twitter account Wednesday, showing his daily workout routine and indicating his readiness to play again. The video was posted as the NFL is in its second week of preseason games.

“5am. 5 days a week. For 3 years. Still Ready,” the free agent’s tweet said. The accompanying video montage starts with a “Denied work for 889 days” title card.

Kaepernick is most famous for taking a knee during the national anthem in the 2016 season to protest police brutality and racism. Some of Kaepernick’s teammates joined him, as did players on other teams.

Kaepernick praised former teammate Eric Reid for promising to continue taking a knee this season with the Carolina Panthers.

After opting out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers in 2017, Kaepernick has not been signed by any team. He and other players sued the NFL, accusing the organization for blacklisting players who protested during the anthem. The lawsuit was settled in February.

“As a result of those discussions, the parties have decided to resolve the pending grievances. The resolution of this matter is subject to a confidentiality agreement so there will be no further comment by any party,” Kaepernick’s lawyer said.

In 2018, Nike renewed their endorsement of Kaepernick, which was set to expire, and made him the face of their marketing campaign for the 30th anniversary of its “Just Do It” slogan.
