Joe Biden declared that he was proud of his son for the judgment he made when he took a $50,000-a-month position with the Ukraine energy company Burisma while the 2020 presidential front-runner was vice president.
“My son’s statement speaks for itself,” Biden, 76, said during the Democratic debate in Westerville, Ohio. “I did my job. I never discussed a single thing with my son about anything having do with Ukraine. No one has indicated I have.
“We have kept everything separate, even when my son was the attorney general of the state of Delaware. We never discussed anything. So there would be no potential conflict. My son made a judgment. I’m proud of the judgment he made. I’m proud of what he had to say. Let’s focus on this, the fact of the matter is that this is about Trump’s corruption.”
Earlier Tuesday, Hunter Biden, 49, conceded he exercised “poor judgment” by taking the Burisma position.
The younger Biden’s work with Burisma has faced scrutiny after President Trump requested Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to begin an investigation into the Bidens. That request led a CIA officer to file a whistleblower complaint that has since led the House to begin an impeachment inquiry.
