Melvyn Goldman was a well-known real estate developer in the Baltimore area for years and years, but he held no project closer to his heart than the home he built for his family in Owings Mills.
“The house was my father?s love,” said his son, Donald Goldman. “He oversaw the construction himself when the house was built in approximately 1963, and lived there from then until his death in 2007. It was almost a retreat for him. He loved being able to share it with his family and friends who would come over, particularly during the summer.”
It?s easy to see why guests would want to visit. Nestled on more than two acres, the home features an in-ground swimming pool and tennis court.
“The landscaping is unbelievable,” said Paul Cooper, of Alex Cooper Auctioneers. “The manicured grounds have been beautifully maintained, there are walkways, waterfalls. It?s unbelievable. It?s the nicest two acres of park you?re going to find outside an actual park. This is the nicest landscaped house we?ve had the opportunity to sell.”
The inside isn?t too shabby either. The 3,700-square-foot home was designed by renowned architect Mark Beck. It has 3 bedrooms and 4.5 baths, and the completely finished lower level features a large recreation room, access to the pool and tennis courts and full kitchenette. There are ceramic tile floors, vaulted ceilings, numerous walnut built-ins, a built-in wet bar in the family and dining room, and three wood-burning fireplaces. One of those sits in the master bedroom, which has a huge dressing area with walk-in closet and custom clothing system and a master bathroom with marble tile floor and granite with multihead shower and Jacuzzi two-person tub. All the bedrooms have sliding glass doors that lead to the beautiful grounds.
The cedar and stacked-stone home was built in a contemporary style that makes it feel relevant even today.
“I was high school when we moved into that house,” Goldman said. “I enjoyed the amenities of the outdoors, the pool and the tennis and the beautiful grounds. It was a great gathering place for family. It was a wonderful place for my father tosee his grandchildren and great grandchildren come into the world.”
