After scaling down her anchor work for MSNBC, Rachel Maddow has a new project lined up: a podcast in which she will explore the 80-year history of efforts to undermine democracy.
The firebrand liberal host will debut the new podcast titled Ultra with two episodes dropping on Oct. 10. Her new journey in the podcasting space comes after she inked a lucrative deal reportedly worth $30 million with MSNBC, though a person close to the network denied that figure.
RACHEL MADDOW’S REPLACEMENT LOSES 38% OF AUDIENCE
“We are not the first generation of Americans to have contended with a clear and present threat to our democracy,” Maddow explained in a press release, per Mediate. “The history of this particular fight is less well known today, but it’s a fascinating example of how the criminal law can’t be counted on to do it all.”
The star MSNBC anchor had reportedly been mulling an exit after 13 years at the network but ultimately opted to stay after signing the new contract with the company. As part of the agreement, she will work on projects in a range of formats.

She has developed a production company named Surprise Inside to produce content, and MSNBC will get “first right of refusal,” Vanity Fair reported.
Throughout her tenure atop MSNBC’s 9 p.m. prime-time hour, Maddow was a ratings demon who regularly had one of the top-rated shows on the cable news network. During the Trump administration, she focused heavily on reporting about ties between former President Donald Trump and the Russian government.
More recently, she has delivered extensive coverage on the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. The Jan. 6 committee is gearing up to host its final scheduled public hearings and the trial of Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes for seditious conspiracy charges pertaining to the events surrounding the riot is heating up.

Maddow previously worked on the Bag Man podcast with a producer who worked on her hit MSNBC show The Rachel Maddow Show. The podcast explored former Vice President Spiro Agnew’s machinations.
She now hosts the 9 p.m. show once a week on Mondays.
