By the Numbers: FLOTUS attempts to break jumping jack record

20,425: The number of people that First lady Michelle Obama hopes to have led by the end of the White House’s mob-style jumping jack event which started on Tuesday, when she led about 400 kids from DC-area elementary schools in an attempt to break the Guinness World Records title for the Most People Doing Jumping Jacks in a 24-hour period. Ice skating champion Michelle Kwan, a member of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition, was there as an independent witness for the record, but no one knows yet if Guinness has a new listing. The event is sponsored by National Geographic Kids, which signed children up to participate across the world – but to break the record, more than 20,425 people from around the world have to be recorded doing jumping jacks continuously for one minute by 3 p.m. Wednesday, when a panel with the Guinness Book of World Records will determine if enough people have participated to make for a new world record.
