More Caps/NHL odds for 2011-12

Bodog back at it with NHL odds for the 2011-12 season. Some of them make me want to grab my wallet, to be honest. But I think I’ll hold off. The Caps are listed as 2/5 favorites to win the Southeast Division. Tampa Bay is second at 9/4. Washington was also the favorite to win the Eastern Conference at 4/1. The Pittsburgh Penguins were 9/2 with the Philadelphia Flyers 5/1 and the Boston Bruins 11/2. Interesting. Not sure I’d have Philadelphia over the defending champs at this point. Tampa Bay was ranked fifth at 8/1 with the Buffalo Sabres 10/1.

The Caps were listed as co-favorites at 7/1 to win the Stanley Cup along with the Vancouver Canucks, last year’s runners-up. Boston, Pittsburgh and the San Jose Sharks were all 10/1 to win the Cup, the Flyers were 11/1 and the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks were 12/1. Might be willing to take a risk on the Los Angeles Kings as a darkhorse 14/1 shot to win a title.

Like to play the over/under game? Bodog has the line set at 98.5 points for Alex Ovechkin and 43.5 goals. Nicklas Backstrom is 78.5 points, Alex Semin is 63.5 and Mike Green is 49.5. Semin’s goal total over/under is 31.5. What do you think of Tomas Vokoun with 30.5 wins for 2011-12? Washington is at 107.5 for total standings points.

Some other odds and ends: If you expect the Caps to miss the playoffs you have to plunk down $600 to win $100. Bodog has Sidney Crosby’s games played over/under at 60.5. I’m absolutely taking the over on 1.5 coaches fired during the regular season. We may hit that by Dec. 1. Total suspensions from discipline czar Brendan Shanahan? Bodog says choose an over/under of 40.5 I know there’s been nine already this preseason, but that seems high to me. Things should calm down during the regular season.
