President Obama’s job approval rating has hit 55 percent — the highest number he has seen during his second term.
Obama’s job approval numbers have now been above 50 percent for seven consecutive polls, according to the latest CNN/ORC poll released Thursday.
Since the last poll, his approval rating has gone up 4 percent and it is up 11 points since the mid-September CNN/ORC poll.
This time last year, Obama’s approval rating was roughly 10 points lower.
The rise in Obama’s job approval rating over the past year can be attributed to Democrats, with whom his approval rating is up 12 points at 89 percent, as well as independents at 56 percent, up 14 points.
Republicans who have warmed up to Obama’s job performance has grown just 2 points to 13 percent over the same year-long span.
Obama’s approval rating has also improved with white voters in the past year (+15) and Hispanics (+8), while his 86 percent approval rating among African-Americans has remained roughly the same.
The telephone-based poll of 1,501 adults nationwide as conducted Sept. 28-Oct. 2, and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage point.
