Georgia shows limits of Trump endorsements with Perdue flop and Walker surge

Former President Donald Trump appears headed to a split decision in the Georgia Republican primaries, with his hand-picked Senate candidate leading but his gubernatorial choice sinking fast.

Former Georgia football star Herschel Walker, backed by Trump, is far out in front of all his challengers in the Senate GOP race, according to a new CRC Research survey shared with Secrets on Tuesday.

Walker is up 51% to 7% over top challenger Gary Black in the race to take on sitting Sen. Raphael Warnock in the fall midterm elections.

In the GOP gubernatorial primary, where Trump has endorsed former Sen. David Perdue, incumbent Gov. Brian Kemp also has a massive lead, 57% to 24% in the CRC Research survey. Just 10% of voters are undecided in the race with the election one month off.

The results are similar to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll out today.

Trump and his picks have made election integrity a major concern in the election. Georgia is one of a handful of states where the former president’s supporters have made the case that cheating cost Trump the election.

While it remains a concern in the eyes of voters, inflation has surged in front, said the CRC Research survey, and is key to both the Senate and gubernatorial race.

The survey data show 28% of Republican voters feel inflation is the top problem and that election integrity and the economy are second, at 21% each.

“The most important issues for Walker supporters are election integrity, and inflation,” the poll analysis said. “Undecided voters in this race are most concerned about pocketbook issues of inflation and jobs and the economy.”

And it found that GOP voters are very enthusiastic about voting, with 82% saying they are eager to hit the polling places.

Trump has endorsed dozens of primary candidates around the nation and has a solid winning record so far. His failure to rally Georgia voters for Perdue, however, appears to be his biggest flop yet.
