UPDATE: You can t make up lost time

Just received a sad email from a woman whose elderly mother lives at The Carlin Apartments in Arlington. (See ‘UPDATE: The Carlin’ post below):

As you may remember, my 12-year-old daughter  has been prohibited from spending the night at her grandmother’s place in The Carlin since last April. She was able to begin again in January, but didn’t do so very much since my mom was so ill.

“Well, two weeks ago my mom got a diagnosis of stae IV lung cancer. The prognosis is quite grim.

“I’m really angry because my mom and daughter lost all this quality time. My mom is being treated at NIH, but even in the best case scenario, we are looking at a year or 18 months. I wish Arlington County or HHS or whoever is the responsible regulatory entity could see what heartless tyrants are in charge at The Carlin. It makes me sick.

“Unfortunately, my mom is staying there since she is on oxygen 24/7 and I live in a house on a very steep lot with the equivalent of two flights of stairs to climb. She can’t easily visit our house anymore and we feel so unwelcome there. It is just a shame.’

It’s more than a shame that Arlington County allows this petty dictator to terrorize and harass sick and elderly people living in subsidized housing, and doesn’t bother to lift a finger to help them.
