President Trump encouraged the leader of Latvia to call on a foreign reporter during a joint press conference at the White House on Tuesday, saying he would prefer “real news, not fake news.”
Trump told Latvian President Raimonds Vējonis, standing at a podium alongside Trump and the leaders of Estonia and Lithuania, that he could select a journalist to ask a final question.
“Pick a reporter please. You can pick a reporter, A Baltic reporter ideally. Real news, not fake news,” Trump said.
“Do you want to pick? I think we have enough. Do we have enough? Yes? ” Trump continued. “Mr. President, pick a reporter from the Baltics. Not the same man, he was very tough.”
A female journalist from Latvia got the question. She asked about her president’s upcoming trip to San Francisco to make business connections.
As the four leaders left the East Room of the White House, an American journalist bellowed a question about a porn star’s alleged affair with Trump. “Any response to Stormy Daniels?” he asked. The room erupted in laughter.
