Republicans want info on illegal immigrant accused of rape near DC

House and Senate Republicans want details on an illegal immigrant accused of a brutal rape outside Washington, D.C.

House and Senate Judiciary Chairmen Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., and Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, want to know how the accused rapist entered the United States and whether he had a criminal history that did not lead to his deportation sooner.

In a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, Goodlatte and Grassley seek details about Roberto Carlos Flores Sibrian, 26, who is charged with rape and aggravated sexual battery. Flores Sibrian is accused of dragging a woman out of her car near Fredericksburg, Va., on Halloween and raping her for two hours.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has issued an immigration detainer for Flores Sibrian, who was arrested on Nov. 17 and is being held on a $107,000 bond.

Grassley and Goodlatte want to know how and when he entered the United States, whether he has been deported previously and whether he had ever been arrested prior to the rape charges.

The letter also asks whether he received benefits, whether he belonged to a gang and if he would have been among the people considered priorities for deportation under President Obama’s deportation enforcement policy, which was supposed to focus on ensuring criminals living in the U.S. illegally are removed from the country.

The letter asks for the information “no later than Dec. 5.”
