Bill Pascoe, a political consultant whose commentary is always worth reading, suggests that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney had his chance to deal with ObamaCare, and blew it:
All he had to do was say six simple words, words Americans love to hear: “I was wrong. I am sorry.”
The point is that given the very close resemblance between ObamaCare and the RomneyCare plan he left behind in Massachusetts, his strident opposition to the president’s new health insurance system is rather incongruous and indefensible. A simple apology for RomneyCare’s faults would have gone a lot farther. Here is what Pascoe wishes Romney had said:
“I’m willing to bet that it won’t work any better at the federal level than it has at the state level. The fact of the matter is, we tried it, and it doesn’t work — Massachusetts has the highest insurance premiums in the nation, and our state’s per-capita spending is 27 percent higher than the national average.”
