PALM SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) — Police say a bank robber who was fleeing the scene of his crime has been shot after firing at an officer.

Palm Springs police spokesman Edgar Morley says a call reporting a robbery at a TD Bank branch came in just after noon on Tuesday.

As officers arrived on the scene, Morley says the suspect fired a gun. Police weren’t struck but returned fire, hitting the suspect. He has been hospitalized, but his injuries weren’t considered life-threatening.

Morley says at least two people suffered minor injuries during the course of the robbery.

The name of the suspect wasn’t immediately released.
