Texas senator Ted Cruz has infamously attacked Donald Trump for supposedly embodying “New York values.”
Back in 1999, then-Atlanta Braves pitcher John Rocker took a torch of his own to New York values. In a notorious interview with Sports Illustrated, Rocker explained why he would hate to play for a New York ball club. “Imagine having to take the [Number] 7 train to the ballpark,” he said, “looking like you’re [riding through] Beirut next to some kid with purple hair, next to some queer with AIDS right next to some dude who just got out of jail for the fourth time, right next to some 20-year-old mom with four kids. It’s depressing.”
Well, it seems that Rocker, who is now retired, has come around on New York: This week, he endorsed Mr. New York Values himself, Donald Trump. Then again, in that same SI interview, Rocker also said, “I’m not a very big fan of foreigners.” So perhaps his support for The Donald isn’t too surprising.
