Comey invited to testify at Senate Intelligence Committee

Former FBI Director James Comey has been invited by the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee to testify before his panel next Tuesday.

The office for Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., confirmed to The Washington Examiner that Comey was invited, and that the session will be closed.

Burr tweeted out that he invited Comey to testify, but it was not clear mid-Wednesday afternoon whether Comey has accepted.

Congressional aides for Sen. Mark Warner — the top Democrat on the committee — and Burr confirmed to the Examiner that Comey met with them as recently as Monday, but would not elaborate.

Comey was fired from his position Tuesday by President Trump. It has been reported that Comey recently asked the Justice Department for more money and personnell — i.e. “resources” — just days before being fired. However, the DOJ has strongly denied that claim.
