Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., said Republicans are being heartless by demanding that a woman accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault appear at a Wednesday hearing to testify, and called on them to delay the meeting for at least one day.
Feinstein said plans for a Wednesday hearing were made even though GOP lawmakers knew Ford could not appear before Thursday.
“Republicans should show a little compassion, not to mention consideration that she’ll need to prepare for the hearing,” Feinstein said. “Republican senators want to turn over their duty to ask questions to outside counsel, but Dr. Ford can’t do that. Just because Republicans don’t need to prepare doesn’t mean Dr. Ford should be rushed.”
Feinstein said the GOP should “show some heart,” and wait until Ford wants to appear.
The hearing was originally scheduled for Monday but Ford said the date was too soon.
Kavanaugh denies her accusation that he pinned her to a bed, covered her mouth and attempted to sexually assault her while the two were in high school.
