Blake Farenthold blames ‘some female senators from the Northeast’ for failed efforts to repeal Obamacare

Rep. Blake Farenthold, R-Texas, blamed female Republicans for the Senate’s failed efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare, and said had it been male senators who were opposing the plan, he would’ve challenged them to a duel.

In a radio interview with “1440 Keys,” Farenthold said it was “absolutely repugnant” that the Senate hasn’t dismantled the 2010 healthcare law and said it was because of “some female senators from the Northeast.”

“The fact that the Senate does not have the courage to do some of the things that every Republican in the Senate promised to do is absolutely repugnant to me,” he told the Corpus Christi, Texas, station. “Some of the people that are opposed to this, there are some female senators from the Northeast.”

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, is the only female senator from the Northeast to come out against the Senate’s initial bill repealing and replacing parts of Obamacare, as well as a second proposal revived by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to repeal the law first, and replace it later.

The other two female Republican senators who have thus far opposed the GOP’s repeal plan are Sens. Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.

In the interview, Farenthold said he would’ve challenged the opposing senators to a duel had they been fellow men from Texas.

“If it was a guy from south Texas, I might ask him to step outside and settle this Aaron Burr-style,” Farenthold said.

The Senate is expected to vote to proceed to debate on a healthcare bill this week, but so far, McConnell hasn’t said which legislation they’d take up.
