President Trump said he would enjoy attending his own impeachment trial, but his lawyers would not be supportive of the move.
“Wouldn’t that be great? Wouldn’t that be beautiful? I’d sort of love to sit right in the front row and stare at their corrupt faces. I’d love to do. Don’t keep talking because you may convince me to do it,” Trump told reporters Wednesday during a news conference in Davos, Switzerland.
Trump, who has bashed his impeachment as a “hoax,” said his lawyers “might have a problem” if he attends.
The Senate began floor arguments on Tuesday, pitting Democratic House impeachment managers, headed by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, against Trump’s seven-member legal team, led by White House counsel Pat Cipollone.
Cipollone argued the Democratic-led House impeachment investigation did not give Trump due process and was politically motivated.
House Democrats insisted Trump abused the power of his office when he sought Ukraine’s assistance in investigating Joe Biden while at the same time withholding critical security aid to the country.
