James Comey on the anniversary of his firing: ‘Missing the people of the FBI today’

Former FBI Director James Comey praised his former agency Wednesday, the one-year anniversary of President Trump’s decision to fire him.

[Opinion: Why James Comey was fired]

“Missing the people of the FBI today. Thank you for your commitment to truth and for all the good you do for this country,” Comey tweeted.

Comey found out he was fired on May 9, 2017, from a cable television show reporting Trump’s decision. Trump said Comey’s handling of the probe into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of state led to his termination.

At the time of his firing, the top official was leading the investigation into whether Trump’s campaign colluded with the Russian government to sway the outcome of the 2016 presidential election. Trump’s opponents argued that Trump likely fired Comey to delay the Russia investigation, but Trump reiterated last month that the decision had nothing to do with Russia.

However, in his letter to Comey last year, Trump cited the Russia investigation.
