Attorney Michael Avenatti, who represents Trump accuser Stormy Daniels and another woman who has leveled charges against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, said that leaders in the Democratic National Committee are encouraging his 2020 presidential bid.
On MSNBC, he said that he has won support for his potential run, claiming that he can beat President Trump.
On MSNBC, he said:
I’ve been traveling around the country, raising money for Democrats, and I’ve received an incredible response in every state that I’ve gone to.
I think I’ve surprised a lot of people. I’ve received a lot of encouragement in various states to run.
I’ve received a lot of encouragement from the Democratic National Committee and senior leadership within the committee, frankly, to run.
And people want a fighter, people want somebody who can actually beat Donald Trump.
Adrienne Watson, Democratic Party deputy communications director, however took issue with the lawyer’s claim that he was getting a push from the DNC to run.
“The DNC’s highest priority is to make sure the process for 2020 is inclusive, impartial and fair – fair in fact and fair in perception. To that end, the DNC does not encourage or discourage anyone who is considering running for the Democratic nomination for president,” she said.
Avenatti’s pitch to Democrats has won some positive press. Politico, for example, took note of his work at a recent party meeting, and the reaction he won.
