FILE - In this Feb. 22, 2017, file photo, reporters raise their hands as White House press secretary Sean Spicer takes questions during the daily briefing in the Brady Press Briefing Room of the White House in Washington. A survey finds that there’s a big change in just a year in how Democrats and Republicans view the media’s role as watchdogs of political leaders. A Pew Research Center study out Wednesday, May 10, said nearly nine in 10 Democrats said a critical media is important because it keeps political leaders from doing things they shouldn’t. Meanwhile, only 42 percent of Republicans feel that way.

It’s not shocking that a few reporters pushed North Korean propaganda, but it is shocking that so many of them did

Only a week ago, it was easy to see Sen. Chuck Schumer's political calculus: tie DACA to a critical spending bill, and when Republicans balked, blame President Trump, and let the media do its usual hatchet job on the White House. But this time, the media did its job, and it's important to give credit where credit is due. (AP Photo/Andrew Harnik)
    Immigration

Chuck Schumer’s shutdown fell apart when the mainstream media refused to shield Democrats
