FILE - In this Sept. 5, 2017 file photo, former Secretary of State John Kerry attends a tennis match at the U.S. Open tennis tournament in New York. Kerry has not been charged with a felony under an obscure U.S. law, despite false claims being shared online that say the former Secretary of State is facing jail time. At least a dozen websites operating under the name PoliticsFocus said Kerry faces charges under the Logan Act, a 200-year-old law barring private citizens from conducting diplomacy. The identical stories carry the same headline about a “major announcement” from the White House, but the White House has no record of any such announcement concerned Kerry.
