Brandon Coats, a quadriplegic medical marijuana patient who was fired by the Dish Network after failing a drug test more than four years ago, right, waits for the proceedings to begin with his mother, Donna Scharfenberg, at the Colorado Supreme Court in Denver on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014. Coats' case highlights the clash between state laws that are increasingly accepting of marijuana use and employers' drug-free policies that won't tolerate it. Former Spartanburg, S.C., sheriff's deputy Brandon Bentley, poses for a photo with his wife, retired Salem police department officer Kelly Clark, in Salem, Ore. Bentley's appeal to the South Carolina Supreme Court on a post-traumatic stress disorder claim was denied, stating the law did not provide mental health benefits for officers because they are trained in the use of deadly force and know that they may have to use it. This photo released on April 29, 2014 by the Jefferson County District Attorney shows an undated booking photo of former Denver sheriff's division chief Michael Than. Authorities say Than stole more than $20,000 worth of tax software by hiding it in other merchandise at Target stores. Court documents released Tuesday, April 29, 2014, say Than hid boxes of Turbo Tax software in other items such as bags of dog food, a cooler and a padded envelope, then paid for those items instead. Investigators say he resold the software on eBay between February 2010 and January 2013, earning more than $60,000. Than was indicted on charges including tax evasion, theft and filing false tax returns.(AP Photo/Jefferson County District Attorney)
