One C-SPAN caller asked a Never Trump GOP strategist why he doesn’t identify as a Democrat.
Calling in on the “Republican line” from New York on Thursday, a man identified as “Sean” confronted Rick Wilson about his disparaging comments of President Trump.
“You said everything Trump touches is bad. Look at our economy. And also, former Vice President Biden said when President Trump did that ban from China for people coming here because of the virus, he called Trump racist and this and that, but, of course, our medical experts did say that that ban saved thousands of lives here in the U.S. And also, why don’t you just call yourself a Democrat now because, obviously, that is what you are?” the caller asked Wilson on C-SPAN’s Washington Journal program.
“Well, you’re mistaken in your last point,” Wilson said. “We are, right now, facing the fact that Donald Trump is a bad leader and a bad planner who is interested only in himself and not the country.”
Wilson is a member of the Lincoln Project, a group of anti-Trump Republicans and independents, which was co-founded by George Conway, the husband of presidential adviser Kellyanne Conway. During media appearances, Wilson is frequently and vocally critical of Trump and his supporters.
Appearing on CNN Tonight hosted by network personality Don Lemon, Wilson impersonated Trump voters while speaking in a heavy Southern accent. “Donald Trump’s the smart one, and y’all elitists are dumb,” he said. During the segment, Wilson insinuated Trump voters reject geography, maps, spelling, math, and reading.
