Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will meet with 9/11 first responders after he clashed with comedian Jon Stewart.
A group of first responders are scheduled to meet with the Kentucky Republican at the Capitol on Tuesday, the Associated Press reported.
Stewart derided McConnell and other lawmakers for allowing a $7 billion fund to deplete that was set up after the 2001 terrorist attacks to help victims with medical costs.
The comedian accused McConnell of slow-walking a bill that would ensure the fund can pay benefits for decades to come.
McConnell said he didn’t know why the former host of The Daily Show was “all bent out of shape” and the issue would be addressed.
John Feal, a ground zero recovery worker, said the meeting with McConnell had been previously planned, but Stewart helped bring more attention to the needs of first responders.
“Mitch McConnell should feel Jon’s passion as well,” Feal said.
