Joe Biden says he has no regrets about missing a recent Iowa Democratic candidate forum, where 19 other Democratic presidential candidates spoke.
“One of my competitors criticized me for not going to Iowa to talk for five minutes,” the former vice president said Monday evening at a fundraiser in Washington, D.C. “My granddaughter was graduating. It was my daughter’s birthday. I would skip inauguration for that.”
On Sunday, tech entrepreneur and 2020 long shot Andrew Yang jabbed at Biden during the Iowa Democratic Party Hall of Fame Dinner in Cedar Rapids.
“When I saw the program for today, I thought the same thing you all did, which is this: Joe Biden must really not like to travel,” Yang joked.
Biden has increasingly come under scrutiny for his relatively light campaign schedule. Since announcing his candidacy in April, he has held less than half of the public events as his rivals.
On Tuesday, Biden will be back in Iowa for his second trip to the state this year.
