Temu MAGA: Anti-Trump Marjorie Taylor Greene is legacy media’s next Liz Cheney

Every so often, a Republican with an axe to grind decides the most effective way to gain attention is to turn on President Donald Trump.

Today’s Exhibit A is Marjorie Taylor Greene, who, over the past few weeks, has been ubiquitous on left-leaning TV and podcasts, primarily to attack Trump regarding the Epstein files. Once among the most mocked lawmakers regardless of party, she is now gaining (fake) respect from everywhere, including anti-Trump entities and television programs such as The View to CNN to MSNBC.

Headlines this week read:

CNN: What Marjorie Taylor Greene’s political revolt may say about Trump

Politico: Trump stews and Dems gloat over feud with Marjorie Taylor Greene

AP: MAGA rift grows as Trump feuds with Greene before key 2026 midterm elections

Newsweek: The evolution of Marjorie Taylor Greene

Legacy media is eating this grift up, after a week since the true political civil war broke out among Democrats, who were hoping to keep the government closed in perpetuity to resist Trump and rile up its growing left-wing base.

The said rift began after Trump rightly pointed out to Greene that her chances of winning a possible Senate race against Democrat incumbent Sen. Jon Ossoff were slim to none, with polls showing her losing by double digits in a state Trump won twice. Greene, once a staunch supporter of Trump, has since publicly revolted in a very personal manner, even going so far to accuse the president of “protecting pedophiles” as it relates to Epstein.

“It is a shame our government is working harder to protect pedophiles than they are fighting for the victims,” Greene recently wrote on X.

This, of course, is a ridiculous claim from a ridiculous person. Examples are endless to support this perspective, including her endorsing a claim that wildfires in California were once started by “Jewish Space Lasers” led by Jewish elites in an effort to clear enough land for Gavin Newsom’s high-speed rail project.

She has also accused Hillary Clinton of mutilating a child in a satanic ritual — no, really.

This lawmaker also believes a plane never hit the Pentagon on 9/11, has implied the United States was behind the attacks, claimed Ruth Bader Ginsberg died and was replaced by a body double, insisted the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting was a “false flag” to push gun control, while also actually saying the government has the ability to steer storms to impact voting in red states like Florida.

“Yes they can control the weather,” she wrote on X in 2023. “It’s ridiculous for anyone to lie and say it can’t be done.”

Who is “they” exactly?

“Well some of them are listed on NOAA, as well as most of the ways weather can be modified,” she wrote while supplying zero evidence. “If your home or business or property is damaged or a loved one is killed by their weather modifications shouldn’t you be eligible for compensation?”

There are no words. This person has no business working as a golf starter, let alone representing a district in Congress.

But during this anti-Trump media tour, none of the examples above are being broached in an effort to normalize her. Instead, the focus is on the president and Jeffrey Epstein, which the media hopes will take down Trump. And they’re even allowing MTG to claim that Israel is somehow involved in covering up the Epstein files.

“We saw Jeffrey Epstein with ties to [former Israeli Prime Minister] Ehud Barak,” she told CNN’s Dana Bash. “We saw him making business deals with them, also business deals that involved the Israeli government, and seems to have led into their intel agencies. And I think the right question to ask is, was Jeffrey Epstein working for Israel?”

And what is her evidence to support this? We don’t know, because Bash just moved on without following up.

As for Trump, he had enough of all of this over the weekend.

“She has told many people that she is upset that I don’t return her phone calls anymore, but with 219 Congressmen/women, 53 U.S. Senators, 24 Cabinet Members, almost 200 Countries, and an otherwise normal life to lead, I can’t take a ranting lunatic’s call every day,” he wrote on Truth Social

“I understand that wonderful, conservative people are thinking about primarying Marjorie in her District of Georgia, that they too are fed up with her and her antics and, if the right person runs, they will have my complete and unyielding Support,” he added. “She has gone far left, even doing ‘The View,’ with their Low IQ Republican hating Anchors. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

“President Trump just attacked me and lied about me,” Greene responded on X. “The hoax pizza deliveries have started now, to my house and my family members. Update: We also received a pipe bomb threat on my construction company’s office building.”

Yep. Greene goes after Trump for weeks on television and on social media, and the moment he responds, she does what she does best: Plays the victim.

In the end, MTG will continue to be the next shiny object for legacy media to attempt to prop up. She will ride this wave to an announcement in 2027 saying she’s running for president while claiming to be more MAGA than Trump himself, who literally launched the movement. MAGA without Trump is like the Sopranos with Tony Soprano — it doesn’t exist.

MTG will take the Eric Swalwell lane on the Republican side during the presidential primary season. What’s the Swalwell lane? That’s a place where an unserious candidate receives tons of airtime after saying provocative things about their opponents while polling with 1% support. As the California congressman did in 2020, the Swalwell lane will go off the exit ramp well before any votes are cast, but it will be mission accomplished regardless by officially assuming the mantle of Internet troll and resistance figure without having to actually govern.

Additionally, Greene has become quite rich since joining Congress in 2021 as well. Since elected, the congresswoman has executed more than 450 stock trades and has shown a Pelosi-like ability to vastly outperform the S&P 500. Her net worth has reportedly jumped to more than $20 million despite having a salary of $174,000 per year. But any interview she does now only focuses on Trump and Epstein, never on all of these trades curiously going so very well.

The transformation of Majorie Taylor Greene is complete. And in the least surprising thing you’ll read all week, there are actually those in the press who are gullible enough to buy her new act of humility and country-over-party.

“Remarkable interview. I see change from what we’ve seen,” New York Times journalist Tyler Pager gushed in an analysis of Dana Bash’s interview with Greene. “In some ways, some of the rhetoric she was saying sounded like Joe Biden: ‘There’s more that unites us than divides us.’ That is not the type of rhetoric we hear from Donald Trump and the MAGA base.”

Yep. Except Biden was seen by a solid majority of Americans as divisive. In fact, an April 2024 Rasmussen poll found that just 9% of likely voters said Biden had done more to unite the country than divide it. Otherwise, solid comparison!

NATIONAL CONSERVATISM ISN’T THE FUTURE OF THE GOP

We live in a political world full of performance artists.

MTG is now leading the way on that front. And after years of being rightly mocked, she’ll now be embraced by legacy media as courageous and evolutionary, all because of those precious sound bites from turning on the very president that elevated her in the first place.
