If this were a movie, the third act would write itself: a final showdown between 21st-century America’s two main characters — President Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama, two-term presidents and historic rivals who have never faced each other on a ballot.
But even movies need to be somewhat plausible. The 22nd Amendment to the Constitution states that “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” Trump himself — whose online store is selling “Trump 2028” hats for $55 — conceded at a rally in Iowa last week that the language is airtight.
