One of President Trump’s personal valet drivers has tested positive for the coronavirus.
Deputy White House press secretary Hogan Gidley released a statement on Thursday confirming that the valet, who remains unnamed but is believed to be a member of the Navy, tested positive for the virus.
“We were recently notified by the White House Medical Unit that a member of the United States Military, who works on the White House campus, has tested positive for Coronavirus,” Gidley said. “The President and the Vice President have since tested negative for the virus and they remain in great health.”
The news comes days after the president declined to wear a mask during a tour of the Honeywell International manufacturing plant in Arizona.
Trump’s valet team consists of members of an elite military unit who are assigned to the White House and interact in close proximity with the president and his team.
