Syrian President Al-Sharaa began his speech with an extensive denunciation of the former government of Bashar al-Assad.
While portraying his Syria as the “cradle of civilization,” former Islamic State and al Qaeda lieutenant Sharaa said it had been occupied by a “criminal” regime for the past 60 years.
He outlined a litany of human rights abuses committed by the former regime, including the use of chemical weapons, torture, and drug production.
