Ballot box fires in Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver, Washington, are connected, according to police.

A “suspect vehicle” has been identified in the case. In Vancouver, hundreds of ballots in a ballot box were destroyed after a “suspicious device” that was flaming and smoking was found near it. A ballot box fire in Portland only destroyed three ballots.

Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA), whose district encompasses Vancouver, has requested law enforcement to monitor the ballot boxes until Election Day.

“I hope the perpetrator of this reprehensible act is quickly apprehended — and local and federal law enforcement have my full support in working to keep our democratic process safe and secure,” Gluesenkamp Perez said in a statement.
