Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) issued a statement Wednesday that people “concerned about grassroots democracy and economic justice” should have “very serious political discussions” in the coming weeks after Trump was elected to second term.

Sanders accused Democrats of abandoning the working class, and said that in return the constituency has abandoned them in return.

“It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them. While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they’re right,” Sanders said.

Trump won all three “blue wall” states in the Midwest, which have a significant number of working class voters.

The Vermont senator was easily reelected to his seat Tuesday evening.
