Early voting in North Carolina began Wednesday.
The early voting experience could be different for some voters headed to the polls due to legislative changes and as the western portion of the state is still feeling the heavy impacts from Hurricane Helene.
The North Carolina State Board of Elections website has up-to-date information about relocated polling places and how voters who may have lost their homes can request a new absentee ballot.
This will also be the first presidential election in the state where an ID is required to vote, but there are exceptions, including if one’s ID was lost to Helene.
Voters who are mailing their ballots should note that they must be received by 7:30 p.m. ET on Election Day, Nov. 5. This is a change from the 2020 election when there was a three-day grace period for ballots to arrive.
