A Georgia election audit discovered 20 noncitizens who were registered to vote.
“We are committed to ensuring that only U.S. citizens can vote in our elections through rigorous citizenship verification at the front end, and in maintaining the cleanest voter rolls in the nation through continuous list maintenance,” Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) said in a statement, obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
None of the 20 noncitizens had voted recently, with nine having done so years ago and 11 never having actually voted. Their registration was canceled, and they were referred to law enforcement agencies.
The citizenship status of another 156 voters couldn’t be determined and will be investigated further.
