Google plans to block election ads on all its platforms after the last polls close on Nov. 5, according to a memo sent to its advertising partners Thursday.
The move comes as the company looks to prevent misinformation surrounding elections, including a candidate declaring victory before a race is called, according to Axios.
A spokesperson for Google told the outlet the policy is in place “out of an abundance of caution and to limit the potential for confusion, given the likelihood that votes will continue to be counted after Election Day.”
All ads running on Google’s ad-serving platforms, such as Google Ads, DV360, YouTube, and Google’s Ad Exchange and Shopping ads, will be subject to this policy.
