Harris said Trump’s recent comment calling himself “the father of IVF” was “quite bizarre” while talking to the press at the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

Harris blasted Trump for calling himself the “father of IVF” during his Fox News town hall Wednesday, calling his use of the moniker “quite bizarre.”

“I found it quite bizarre actually. He called himself the ‘father of IVF,’ and if what he meant is taking responsibility for it, then yeah, he should take responsibility for the fact that 1 in 3 women in America lives in a Trump abortion ban state,” Harris said.

Eighteen states, mostly across the South, have limits on abortion after the sixth week of pregnancy. Abortions at 24 weeks and later are legal in 18 states, and there are no limits on abortion in eight states, per an Axios analysis.

A spokesman for the Trump campaign said the comment was “a joke President Trump made in jest when he was enthusiastically answering a question about IVF as he strongly supports widespread access to fertility treatments for women and families,” in remarks to NBC News.
